Brian Washburn never fit into the 9 - 5 work scene.  It was while attending Flagler College in Florida that he began songwriting. Almost thirty years later, writing and performing music is still his life's blood.  What he didn't realize was that his interest in art could also become a passion.  While living and playing music in Boston, Massachusetts he would spend many days in the Museum of Fine Arts, studying the works of the master painters on exhibit.  He would always leave with the same thought - "I'd like to paint someday".

Years later he enrolled in a watercolor class for adults.  The title of one of his early watercolors says it all "A New Addiction".  It was during these classes that his thoughts were turned to oils and this became his main medium after moving back to Florida.  With the advice and encouragement of his friends, multimedia artist Steve Marazzo and photographer Val Kazia, Brian put more time and effort into painting.

During a family vacation to the Georgia and Carolina Mountains a new interest was born.  Gem-grubbing is sifting through pails of dirt in an effort to fine valuable gemstones.  After carting home bags of stones he decided to wire wrap the nicer uncut stones into pendants and earrings.  First they were made for his lovely wife, Donna, but after she received numerous compliments on her jewelry, once again he was encouraged to produce and market his pieces.  His artwork can be found in St. Augustine at "Simple Gestures" and "The St. Augustine Lighthouse Gift Shop".  If you are interested in any of the art you see here, please fill out the contact page.
